Kai Uehara has been surfing for more than 30 years and has spent decades learning how changing swell, wind, tides and local conditions affect the waves in Miyazaki.
That experience is used to make better decisions for each guest — from choosing safer and more suitable conditions for a first-time surfer to helping experienced surfers improve wave selection, positioning and their overall surf experience.
Decades spent reading waves and changing ocean conditions help create better spot selection and safer decisions.
Lessons and coaching are designed around your ability, goals and comfort rather than a large group program.
Surf locations are selected according to the day’s swell, wind, tides, crowds and your surfing level.
Kai also brings years of competitive surfing, international surf experience and experience supporting surfers from Japan and overseas.
The goal is simple: help you spend less time guessing where to surf and more time enjoying the best possible experience for your level in Miyazaki.

Most guests receive a reply within a few hours.
Miyazaki Surf Guide is built around one simple idea: every guest should receive a surf experience that fits their level, goals and the ocean conditions of the day.
After more than 30 years of surfing, I know that a good session is not only about finding the biggest or most famous waves. It is about choosing the right place, at the right time, for the person I am surfing with.
Whether you are catching your first wave, looking to improve your surfing, or visiting Miyazaki in search of the best conditions available that day, I use my local knowledge and experience to help make your time in the ocean safer, easier and more enjoyable.
International surfers are always welcome. I have surfed overseas and have many years of experience guiding and supporting surfers visiting Miyazaki from around the world.
Our main base is at the ANA Holiday Inn Resort Miyazaki Activity Center in Aoshima, making lessons, guiding and rentals convenient for travelers staying in the area.
My goal is not simply to take you surfing. It is to help make your time in Miyazaki one of the best memories of your trip.
